Scope and content

A booklet entitled ‘Jerk Two texts for a puppet play by David Brooks’. From 1 to 3 July 2009, the SLG presented the first London staging of JERK, a production by French director Gisèle Vienne made in collaboration with American writer Dennis Cooper.

A one-person puppet show, JERK is an imaginary reconstruction of the crimes perpetrated by American serial killer Dean Corll who, with the help of teenagers David Brooks and Wayne Henley, killed more than twenty boys in Texas in the mid-70s. In prison, David Brooks learns the art of puppetry, which enables him to face up to his responsibility as an accomplice to the crimes.
The event was part of Paris Calling, a Franco-British season of performing arts.
