Photographs of the group exhibition New Contemporaries 99 which was held at the South London Gallery from 20 of November to 22 December 1999. The exhibition is the annual national touring exhibition of contemporary art by recent graduates emerging from art school all over the UK, it was hosted simultaneously by three independent spaces in South London: Beaconsfield, Milch and the South London Gallery, following its launch in Liverpool. From an open submission of over 1100 entries, the internationally acclaimed artists Susan Hille, Keith Tyson and the leading Italian critic and curator Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev selected 33 artists working in different media as photography, video, painting and site specific installation taking inspiration from sport, music and video games.
