Material relating to the exhibition ‘American Folk Art from the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Collection - Painting and Sculpture’, held at the South London Art Gallery from 22 October to 11 November 1961. The exhibition was mounted in co-operation with the American Embassy and included a display of books on American art and life. It was put on as part of the Borough’s celebration of United Nations Week.
The file includes: an invitation card to the opening; a catalogue (with a foreword by Winthrop Rockefeller) and [draft?] typescripts version of this; a booklet about the exhibition produced by Camberwell Public Libraries; an invitation to the opening of the exhibition when it was shown at the Usis Gallery in Grosvenor Square; photocopies of press cuttings and news bulletins; handwritten notes about dates for printing posters, invitation cards and catalogues; and a catalogue for the exhibition American Painting 1815 to 1865, held at the Usis Gallery at the American Embassy in from 6 January to 6 February 1961.
