Material relating to the exhibition ‘Prints of the World’, held at the South London Art Gallery from 15 June to 14 July 1962. It was put on as part of the Festival of Labour 1962, sponsored by the Labour Party in association with the Libraries and Art Gallery Committee of the Camberwell Borough Council.
Material includes: an invitation to the private view; a catalogue; a press release; a copy of a letter sent to teachers; a list of prints to be returned to the St George’s Gallery; a list of works from other lenders; a typed list of exhibits; works and biographies of Polish artists; typed sheets about printmaking in various countries around the world: United States; Russia; Great Britain, Japan, Mexico, Poland, France, Thailand, India, Vietnam, Canada – Eskimaux; a document providing an outline of events to the Festival of Labour; a leaflet about a handicrafts exhibition in Battersea Park as part of the Festival; and photocopies of 12 press cuttings.
There is also a list of ‘distinguished visitors’ who accepted the invitation to the private view; the Labour Party’s list of people to invite to the private view; and a copy of the speech given by the Rt Hon Hugh Gaitskell MP at the private view.
